Diversifying is very important...Great post Jessica. Diversifying is very important, but you don't have to limit yourself to just conservation experience. Also, look at the big picture and do work outside of the museum field (if you can) that will give you practical experience for conservation. Anything that might sharpen your hand skills is good. One example; I worked as a welder, machinist, and mason while in school and summers. These experiences have helped me many times in my career. Also, when I look as resumes to hire interns I look for practical experiences. <br /><br />Also, I agree with the "be persistent".
